The CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) is the most important identity document for Pakistani citizens. Issued by NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority), the CNIC serves as proof of identity, nationality, and registration in Pakistan's national database. Without it, accessing most government and private services is nearly impossible.
This guide covers everything you need to know about applying for a new CNIC, renewing an expiring one, replacing a lost CNIC, and making corrections to existing information.
Who Is Eligible for a CNIC?
Every Pakistani citizen aged 18 years or older is required to obtain a CNIC. The following individuals are eligible:
- Pakistani citizens who have turned 18 years of age
- Pakistani nationals living abroad (Overseas Pakistanis)
- Citizens who already have a CNIC (for renewal, replacement, or correction)
Note for Minors: Children below 18 are issued a B-Form (Child Registration Certificate) by NADRA. When they turn 18, the B-Form is surrendered and a CNIC is issued in its place.
Types of CNIC Applications
1. New CNIC (First Time)
For citizens applying for a CNIC for the first time, typically at age 18. Requires surrendering the B-Form along with supporting documents.
2. Renewal
CNICs expire every 10 years. Renewal is required before or after expiry. An expired CNIC significantly limits access to banking, government, and other services.
3. Replacement (Lost/Damaged)
If your CNIC is lost, stolen, or badly damaged, you must apply for a replacement. The same CNIC number is retained. You will need to provide supporting documents.
4. Modification/Correction
For correcting errors in name, date of birth, address, or other details on an existing CNIC. Supporting documentation is required for each type of correction.

Common Mistakes & How to Avoid Them
- Incorrect name spelling: Always verify the spelling matches your educational certificates and other documents.
- Wrong date of birth: Match exactly with Union Council birth certificate and B-Form.
- Expired parent CNIC: NADRA may not process applications if parent documents are expired.
- Not filing FIR before replacement: Always get an FIR for a lost CNIC before visiting NADRA.
- Ignoring renewal deadline: An expired CNIC restricts access to banking, sim cards, and other services. Renew before expiry.
Connection to Union Council Documents
Many CNIC applications — especially first-time applications and corrections — require a Union Council birth certificate or family registration certificate as supporting evidence. These documents serve as foundational proof of identity and family ties.
Our service specializes in preparing professionally formatted Union Council document application drafts. A correctly formatted birth certificate or family document application reduces the risk of rejection and makes the CNIC process smoother.
Our Service: We prepare
Union Council birth certificate, marriage certificate, and residential certificate drafts — all frequently required as supporting documents for CNIC applications.
